The Regina Pacis Center in Amman, Jordan, offers children with disabilities not only the opportunity to learn but also physical rehabilitation, and in an environment of inclusion and dialogue. Different cultures live here in harmony -- a place where Christians and Muslims work together to assist children with disabilities. "The Regina Pacis Center in Amman has several departments, among which are one for education and one for formation. These sections deal with children between the ages of 6 and 14 years who have mental retardation. The children are divided into four classes, where they are educated and rehabilitated in order to be included within the local society and to improve their daily life. Another service provided here is early intervention for particularly difficult cases, and children with autism. We also offer treatment and physiotherapy for children with physical disabilities whom we welcome in the center, also making use of aquatic therapy." For over 14 years, the center has offered children the chance to learn skills and crafts, from mosaics to ceramics. All the goods are strictly made by hand, and then sold. The centre mission is to raise awareness in Jordanian society so that all people with disabilities gain full acceptance. Pope Benedict XVI visited the facility on May 8, 2009, during his visit to the Holy Land - an encouraging memory that lives on for the people who work there. "For us, the visit signified a great appreciation for this work which encourages us to improve and continue to help this needy part of society."
